Hello! My name is Debbie (Debs), and I am a fully insured Person-centred counsellor.
My journey of learning began at the University of Aberdeen in 2016, where I studied COSCA Counselling skills level 1-4, which then led me to gain my Post Graduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling. On completing my practice placement and qualifying, I was privilege to be offered a temporary three-month full-time position through Aberdeen Foyer in 2020 - which involved supporting clients through telephone counselling during the beginning of the pandemic. This position enabled me to further grow and develop my skills as a Person-centred counsellor and I continued as a volunteer counsellor with Aberdeen Foyer until 2022. In 2021 I set up my own private practice . Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in the Care Sector for 28 years as I have always been driven towards helping people. Over the years, I worked closely with both children and adults with complex needs and mental health struggles - firstly as a support worker and then progressing into managerial positions.
I fully understand the demands and pressures of university when we embark on a course of study and the difficulties which we may face having to juggle our work/life balance with other commitments. As a supervisor my aim is to work alongside my supervisees using the Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven-eyed process model of supervision, which will enable my supervisees to further develop their own individual skills and personal development. Furthermore, I am committed to being fully integrated in the working relationship with my supervisees offering guidance, support, and advice and I will always practice an open, honest, and non-judgemental approach. I offer a safe, secure, and confidential warm environment, through telephone or online supervision.
I am a member of COSCA, a registered member of BACP and a level 1 member of ACTO (The Association for Counselling &Therapy Online). I adhere to the Ethical framework for Counselling Professions. I am also registered with the ICO (Independent Commissioner’s Office) and I am DBS checked through Disclosure Scotland.
Should you wish to get in contact with me, our first meeting is free of charge. I look forward to meeting with you.
